Vincent Cartter Nix, 70, of Wichita, KS, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, August 24, 2026, shortly after celebrating his 70th birthday – exactly as his own research into health insurance actuary tables had indicated would happen.

Vince was born in Fontana, CA, on June 28, 1956, to Madelyn Cartter and Theodore Nix, and was raised in Auburn, CA. He remained a Cali kid at heart, ceaselessly searching for decent produce. You’d find no higher quality tomato anywhere in Kansas outside Vince’s garden.

A storyteller's storyteller, Vinny/Beave/Pops was never more than a breath away from spinning a yarn. Whether he was being silly or painfully serious, he was rapturous in his own performance, and when he hit his stride, lyrical and mesmerizing. He would engage in deep conversation with any person he met, and the more of a hurry you were in, the longer he'd talk. His questions had

a way of landing as if he already knew you: insightful, often poignant, evoking self-reflection and, sometimes, revelation.

Vince joined the Navy as a teenager and traveled the world as an airman. Afterward, he roamed the U.S. in a two-man circus until he landed in Oklahoma, where he took to the oil fields. He later enrolled in technical college, where he met Lynn Jones. Together they had two children, Jacob and Savannah, creating a blended family alongside her sons, Spencer and Danny.

He was an entrepreneur, a dreamer, and a restless inventor who pursued more lines of business than seemed reasonable for one lifetime. For years, he was an X-ray technician, work he loved for both its science and its people. He believed in the power of a strong back, a shined shoe, and a servant's heart.

Later in life, Vince met Marcia (Sawatzky) Anderson, and they were married for 22 years. During that time, he received a successful kidney transplant, and the two moved to Wichita, KS to be near family. He faced many medical challenges with a contagious positivity, often acting as inspiration to fellow patients and comedic relief to his medical teams, calling himself "artificially sanctioned."

Vince is survived by his devoted wife, Marcia, of the home; his siblings Jenifer (Eric) Tanis of NY and John (Kelly) Nix of CA; his children Jacob (Andrea) Nix of Holton, KS and Savannah Nix of Mesa, AZ; and 10 grandchildren whom he loved very much.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home, East 13th St., Wichita, KS.
