Vernon E. McGee, 78, resident of Wichita, KS, passed away at St. Francis via Christi Hospital. Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He was born at home in Goodrich, KS on October 7, 1945 to Earl J and Jennie Irene (Adams) McGee.
Vernon graduated from Mound City in 1964, then served four years in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Vernon married Della Rickers and they had two children together. After they divorced, he married Kathleen Stone on February 1, 1992 in Wichita, KS.
He raised exotic birds and enjoyed flying remote and fuel controlled flighter planes. Vernon was a gun enthusiast and loved motorcycles. He worked at The Coleman Company Inc. in Wichita and worked many years at Sears, at Towne West Square. He was a published freelance photographer and loved taking pictures at the zoo. He had a lifelong love of spoiling and pampering his beloved cats.
Vernon is survived by one son, Richard (& Heather) McGee- Hutchinson, KS and two daughters, Charlotte McGee- Prescott, AZ and Deborah Fontaine of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. He is survived by four sisters- Rettie Jean (& Kenneth) Weeks- Abilene, KS, Brenda Graves- Vass, NC, Candy Bergemann- Arma, KS, Jane (& Perry) Townsend, Uniontown, KS and three brothers- Wayne (& Heather) McGee- Park City, IL, Larry McGee- Nixa, MO, and Gary (& Barbara) McGee- Fort Scott, KS. He has many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kathleen Stone McGee.
In accordance with Vernon's requests there will be no service held celebrating his life.
