Vernon Fred
Bevan
Aug 1, 1929 — Mar 30, 2025
Wichita
Vernon "Bev" Fred Bevan, 95, of Wichita, KS went to be with Our Lord and Savior on March 30, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born in Lost Springs, KS on August 1, 1929, the son of Fred Bevan and Elsie (Bredemeier) Coleman.
Vernon and his wife, Roxanna Jenkins, were married on August 8, 1948. An ordained deacon of Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita, KS, he also had a long-time career as a Diesel Engineer where he traveled and made many friends along the way. He always had a story to tell and never, ever met a stranger. Vernon and Roxanna loved to take drives in the country. His family always looked forward to his hand-churned ice cream in the summertime and spending time together at the annual 4th of July fireworks in Peabody, KS. He never declined an invitation for dessert and loved to take the grandchildren to the park for a good ol' wiener roast.
He is preceded in death by his son, Starr (Debbie) Bevan, and granddaughter, Samantha (Ryan) Cheatum, both of Wichita, KS; and son-in-law, Roger Dickson of Covington, LA. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Susan (Roger) Dickson of Covington, LA; son, Steven Bevan of Wichita, KS; and daughter, Sheri (Pete) Resa of Lenexa, KS. Grandchildren include Eric Dickson, Edmond, OK; Andrew Dickson, Covington, LA; Allen (Karly) Dickson, Houma, LA; Ben (Barbara) Dickson, Lake Charles, LA; Skye (Lindsey) Bevan, Wichita, KS; Vanessa Walker, McPherson, KS; and Erin (Jason) Swindler, Andover, KS. Nine great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Funeral visitation will take place on Friday, April 4, from 10:00-11:00 am at Baker Funeral Home, 6100 E Central Ave, Wichita, KS 67208 followed by a graveside ceremony at 11:30 am at Bruno Township Cemetery in Andover, KS 67002.
