Thomas Urlin Slater, 70, of Wichita Kansas passed away on Friday, August 2nd 2024 in his home, surrounded by his immediate family after a long battle with extended illnesses.  He passed peacefully at home after entering Hospice Care and was with those he loved best.  Tom was born to parents Sonny and Esther and is survived by his wife of 48 years Dori, son Jeremy and his wife Melissa, daughter Courtney and her husband Ben and son Drew and his wife Jessi, as well as three Grandchildren, Indy, Ridley and Evelynn.

Tom served with distinction in the United States Airforce for twenty years, retiring as a Major and spent the rest of his professional life working with various child welfare agencies in both Kansas and Georgia.

Tom was an avid scuba diver and became certified along with his children.  He loved the ocean and traveling to new and exciting places to experience all that it had to offer.  As a devoted Christian, Tom was always quick to volunteer at his church home whenever he could and always held his faith as one of the most important aspects of his life.

Whether it was diving below the ocean's waves with his children, relaxing in hammocks beneath palm trees with his wife or simply sitting on the couch with his dogs and laughing at a movie, Tom believed in living life to the fullest, and his kindness, generosity and honesty were always on full display to those around him.

A small memorial service will be held for Tom at a later date.  In lieu of flowers and in honor of Tom's wishes, an educational fund for the benefit of his special needs Grandson has been established at Wichita Federal Credit Union.  If you would like to donate towards that fund, please make checks payable to Courtney Thomas and mail to:
