Thomas Edward “Tommy” LaneAugust 18, 1973 – July 22, 2026

Thomas Edward Lane, lovingly known as Tommy, was born on August 18, 1973, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He grew up in Ulysses and attended local schools, where his natural athleticism quickly became clear.Tommy excelled in football, weightlifting, martial arts, and wrestling. He was a two-time state wrestling qualifier, and several of his weightlifting records still stand today—a testament to his strength, discipline, and determination. After graduating high school, Tommy followed in the footsteps of much of his family and began working in the oil field, a job he took great pride in. He loved being a derrick hand and was known for his strong work ethic and grit.  Over the years, he also worked as an operator for Francis Casing Crew in Garden City and later learned the trade of an electrician.

Tommy faced tremendous health challenges throughout his life. Diabetes led to the loss of both his legs, and after an accident that threw him from his wheelchair, he became paralyzed. His vision also deteriorated, leaving him nearly blind. Despite these hardships, Tommy’s spirit remained strong. He continued to show love, humor, and resilience, touching the lives of everyone around him.Tommy leaves behind a wide circle of friends and family who loved him deeply. He had a big heart and was always ready to help others.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Frank & Emma Musgrove, his father Ralph Lane, his uncles Larry Lane and Rockey Lane, and his nephew Justin Lane. He is survived by his beloved Jack Russell puppies, Momma and Yippy, who brought him joy and companionship. He is also survived by his mother Sandy Lane of Ulysses; his sister Tammy Lane Reese of Ulysses; his brother Chuck Lane and wife Dana Lane of Lakin; his brother-in-law Gregory Reese of Ulysses; his children Cody, Kasie, Sky, Caleb, Jake, Caleb & Christian; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A special thank-you is extended to Ped Garcia, Tommy’s caretaker, whose kindness, patience, and love made a profound difference in Tommy’s life. Gratitude is also given to the many friends and caretakers who supported him over the years.
