Obituary

Butts, Ronald William (Ron), 84, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, February 13 2024.


Ron was born December 16, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas and lived his entire life in the Wichita area. He graduated Wichita East High School in 1957, completed Air Force Reserve service in 1960, and then had a 43-year career with The Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 2006.


After retirement, motorcyclists Ron (Candyman) and Terry (Shorty) were active in the American Legion Auxiliary and The Legion Riders, riding their Harleys in ceremonial escorts and other charitable activities on behalf of the American Legion.


He was also a lifelong Freemason, Albert Pike Lodge #303.


He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Terry (Shimer); mother, Clara (Evans); and father, Gilbert. He is survived by his brother, Don (Lila); children, Bill (Oates), Chris (Jennifer), Dennis (Donna) and Kim (Eric); thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


The family is grateful for the care and support of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and touched by the outpouring of love from his dear friends at Post #4, with whom he and Terry were proud to be associated.


A celebration of his life will be held on April 27, 2024, 3pm at the American Legion Post #4, 816 N. Water,  Wichita Ks.
