Robert Timothy Cornett  August 26, 1944 - April 5, 2026

Robert, best known as Tim by his family and friends, peacefully transitioned from this life at home on April 5th, with the assistance of his wife Teresa, his nephew Ben and Phoenix Hospice.  He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Naomi, sisters Donna and Deanna, and his brother Dan.  He is survived by his wife Teresa and brother John, along with nieces Beth Anna and Aimee, and nephews John Michael, Adrian, Joshua, Darsen and Ben, to whom he was the 'uncle-iest' uncle in the world.

Tim was a member of the Wichita East High class of 1962, and a graduate of Wichita State University, earning degrees in Political Science and History.  While attending WSU, he was active in the Political Science Club, and served as Class President during his senior year.  After graduating from WSU, he went on to complete a Jurist Doctorate at Kansas University, graduating in 1970.  Tim worked primarily in private practice for 50 years, until his retirement.  He sought to serve his community, and throughout remained a strong proponent of civil rights for all.

While a student at Kansas University, Tim spent his summer months working as a brakeman for the railroad.  He loved his job on the railroad, and it is there that his family believes his use of a brakeman's hand-held signal light led to his happy obsession with flashlights!  It was evident early in life that he wanted to make the most of his time here on earth.  He earned a pilots license at the age of 17 after winning a contest to receive flying lessons, and earned his pilot's certification from local aviator Rip Gooch.  From there he was drawn to travel, the thrill of motorcycles, snow skiing, mountain climbing (Mt. Rainier, WA. and Longs Peak, CO.), and scuba diving (Puget Sound WA., Hawaii, Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida).  He also loved photography, and it was in a photography class that he and Teresa met in 1978.

In later years, Tim remained active golfing, hunting in the winter months and teaching Hunter Education courses in the Fall.  During summers he sailed his 25 foot boat at Lakes Cheney and El dorado.  His more sedentary pursuits included reading books on History and Politics, exploring American Old West culture (He and Teresa were married at Cowtown), while also frequenting art museums and attending musical performances at Wichita State.

Along with all his other interests and activities, Tim still found time to follow and support his favorite sports teams- the WSU Shockers, KU Jayhawks, KC Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.  Tim's fondest memory was of winning tickets to the 1970 Super Bowl in New Orleans where he and his father witnessed the Chiefs triumph over the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, the Chiefs first Super Bowl win. His family feels sure there was probably even more he would have loved to pursue, but we don't see how he could have fit any more in-  BRAVO, well done!!
