Richard (Dick) Ridder, 90, of Wichita, KS passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 15, 1935, in Andover, KS, the son of Joseph and Anna Ridder.
Dick graduated from St. Mary's Cathedral in 1954 where he was a standout athlete in basketball and football.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Everhart in 1955. They remained married for over 60 years. He retired as a Battalion Chief of the Wichita Fire Department after 35 years of service. He also owned a painting company, retiring at the age of 72.
Dick was a member of All Saints Catholic Church for 70 years and volunteered with many organizations including the All Saints Church and School, The Lords Diner, Guadalupe Clinic, Rescue Mission and many others.
Dick's passion was basketball. He coached boys and girls middle school for about 30 years earning multiple league titles. He coached all six of his own children, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was big fan of Kapaun athletics and The WSU Shockers.
Dick enjoyed all sports including bowling, softball, men's basketball, church volleyball, horseshoes as well hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his large family.
Dick was well liked in many arenas and made friends everywhere he went. Dick was a devout catholic and put God in first in everything. He lived everyday in preparation for his eternal life.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Sharon and eight siblings. He was survived by one remaining sister, Katie Clasen. He is survived by children Tim (Judy), Greg, Kathy (Mike) Reed, Chris (Angie), Jenny, and Rich as well as grandchildren Amy (Eric) Westerman, Zack Reed, Jessica (Luke) Thompson, Lexie (Santana) Agosto, Great-Grandchildren Ian Westerman, Carter and Graham Thompson.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, October 19th at 7:00 pm at All Saints Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, October 20th at 10:00 am also at All Saints Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery - Wichita, KS.
