Port Aransas

Obituary

Norris Leroy Stricker, 83, of Port Aransas, TX, passed away, Monday, March 4, 2024 in Wichita, KS.  He was born March 18, 1940 in Bennet, Nebraska to Norris Arthur and Alice (Crabtree) Stricker.

Norris graduated from Tech High School in Omaha, Nebraska.  He served four years in the U.S. Navy.  Upon returning to Nebraska, he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Business.  He married Sharon Smtih on October 8, 1973.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norris and Alice Stricker, and sister Joyce Puhl of Omaha.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughter Stacie of Wichita and son Norris III of Corpus Christi, TX, and two grandchildren, Bryson and Moira, and sister Bev Nisley of North Carolina, and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

Norris and two other partners formed a manufacturer's rep firm in 1982.  In 1995 he and Sharon started going south for a few weeks out of the year to escape the cold.  During these trips they discovered their island paradise, Port Aransas, Texas.  Looking to "retire," Norris sold the business in 2002, and they moved to Corpus Christi to manage a small apartment complex they purchased.  This is where you could find him laying tile, building patios, working on the landscaping, and painting. In 2005, the move to Port Aransas allowed him to be active with the Parrot Heads of Port Aransas, clean the beach while cruising on the golf cart, attending First Friday at the Art Center, second Saturday at Farley Boat, moonfire, and enhancing the landscape at Ninth Street Townhomes where they lived.

There will be two memorial services. The first will be held in Corpus Christi, TX at First Presbyterian Church on May 10 at 10:00 am. The second will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO on May 17 at 10:00 am.  His ashes will be interred in St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 430 South Carancahua St., Corpus Christi, TX  78401.
