Neita "Kolene" Kreps, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 6, 1948, in Wichita, the daughter of Virgil Powell and Helen Powell (later Caruthers).
Kolene held a variety of jobs throughout her life, with her most cherished role being an aide at St. Francis Hospital, where she found great fulfillment in helping others. One of her fondest memories was a trip to Hawaii in the 1980s, where she had the unforgettable experience of meeting actor Tom Selleck.
Deeply devoted to her family, Kolene was a constant source of love and support. She shared a special bond with her sister Carol, spending nearly every day together and enjoying life's simple pleasures. Kolene also found great joy in her faith and was a member of LifeChurch Wichita. She adored her canine companions, Tiki and Koby, and could often be found taking them on rides to the park.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Powell and Helen Caruthers.
Kolene is survived by her children: Tina Hanna-Frederick (Tim) of Westminster, MD; Bryan Darby of Wichita, KS; Richard Darby (Melinda) of Dardanelle, AR; and Chrystal Baxley (John) of Dardanelle, AR. She is also survived by her siblings: Carol Poort, Louie Powell, Gene Powell, Sheila Moore, and Michael Powell, all of Wichita, KS. In addition, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dogs, Tiki and Koby.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Memorial contributions in Kolene's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local Humane Society.
