Nancy Ellen Schroeder

Nancy Ellen (nee Johnson) Schroeder, age 86, of Wichita, KS; originally of Oswego, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Sedgwick Plaza in Wichita, KS.

Nancy was born on October 1, 1939, to Clyde and Agnes (Gowran) Johnson in Aurora, IL. Nancy grew up in Oswego, IL, and graduated from Oswego High School in 1957.

She married her first husband Donald (Don) Hans shortly after graduating high school and welcomed her first child, Annette, during that union. She later married William (Bill) Schroeder on March 2, 1968, at Good Shepherd Church in Oswego, IL. Nancy and Bill then welcomed sons Michael and Gregory. They first made their home in Oswego, IL, later moving to Montgomery, IL, and living in Boulder Hill for 33 years. They moved from Boulder Hill to Yorkville, IL, near their oldest son, and enjoyed living in an active-adult community. After her husband’s retirement, she and Bill moved to Lafayette, IN, to be near their youngest son and his family. They would later move to Bella Vista, AR, to be near their daughter Annette and her family. They then followed Annette to Wichita, KS, and enjoyed living near Nancy’s sister Kathy as well.

Nancy is survived by her three children: Annette (Derrek) Ziesch of Wichita, KS; Michael (Brigette) Schroeder of Yorkville, IL; and Gregory (Annette) Schroeder of Hudson, WI. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, whom she adored: Hans (Ryan) Drachenberg of Plainfield, IN; Kai Drachenberg of Fayetteville, AR; Bryce (Amanda) Drachenberg of Fayetteville, AR; Rebekah Schroeder of Hudson, WI; Megan Schroeder of Woodland Park, CO; and London and Millie Schroeder of Yorkville, IL. She is also survived by her sisters Kathryn Simmons of Wichita, KS, and Marilyn Travis of Phoenix, AZ, her brother Frank (Diane) Johnson of Montgomery, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and her loving friend and caregiver, Diane Chiles of Wichita, KS.

She is preceded in death by her father Clyde Johnson, her mother Agnes Johnson, her first husband Donald Hans, her second husband William Schroeder, her brother James Johnson, her sister-in-law Marilee Schroeder, and her brothers-in-law Raymond Simmons and Jeffery Travis.

Nancy spent most of her life as a stay-at-home wife and mother; while briefly working for Lyon Metal and Aurora Christian School. Nancy loved music from a very young age. She participated in the high school bands during her time at Oswego High School and went on to be the pianist/organist at Good Shepherd Church in Oswego, IL, for several years. She also provided music for many weddings and funerals in the Oswego area throughout her life. Her beloved piano and extensive music library made every move with her until her final move to Sedgwick Plaza where she continued to enjoy the local talents of her special friend Pastor Eddie.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the piano, and listening to music. She was a woman of faith and was quite proud of helping bring several family members and friends to know and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord & Savior. She leaves behind a family made of love and faith to be carried on by their families and loved ones.

Services will be held at a later date with a joint burial for she and her late husband, Bill.
