Obituary

Max Roland Barker, 81 (29,730 days old), of Wichita, KS passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home.  He was born November 29, 1942, in Liberal, KS the son of Clyde and Maxine (Wilkerson) Barker.

Max graduated from Liberal High School in 1960. He attended Dodge City Community College and studied Engineering, graduating in 1962 and he went on to study Physics at the University of Kansas in 1966.

He worked at First National Bank as a computer programmer.  He then worked as a Systems Analyst at Systematics Incorporated and ultimately took an early retirement from Energy Reserves Group.  Max's hobbies included problem solving, mathematics, and going to watch the sprint car races at 81 speedway.  He was a member of the Urantia book study group.  He will be remembered as an avid talker, reminding us on our birthdays how many years we had left to make it to 100 and an overall fun-loving guy.

He married Patricia Ann Carlisle on May 28, 1967. After getting married they moved to Wichita from Liberal, KS.   Where they had and raised their 3 children Tonya, Tony, and Regan.

Max was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Barker and Maxine Peterson; son Regan Barker; and sister Jacy Laughton.

He is survived by wife Patricia Barker of Wichita, KS; daughter, Tonya Horner (Neil) of Wichita, KS; son Tony Barker (Laura) of Fort Worth, TX; sister Tressie Trogdon (Randy) of Costa Rica; brother Bert Barker (Trish) of Marble Falls, TX; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday April 25, 2024 from 5 to 7 pm at Baker Funeral Home.  The Funeral services will be on Friday April 26, 2024 at 1 pm at Baker Funeral Home in Wichita, KS. Burial will follow at Kechi Cemetery.
