Martha Jane Hobson, née Hinkle, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend to many passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. In August 2024, she celebrated her 90th birthday with her family.

The youngest daughter of William Harley Hinkle and Ella Emma Alpert, Martha Jane was born on August 10, 1934, in Osawatomie, Kansas. Martha had two older siblings, Ruth Charlene Hinkle and John Lemon Hinkle. Martha's maternal grandparents Carl Alpert and Friedrika Reckling were German-born immigrants to the United States who resided on a farm in North Dakota. In an effort to escape harsh winters, the family moved to Kansas where Martha spent the entirety of her life.

After graduating from high school, Martha attended nurses' training in Emporia. She served as a nurse until retirement when she had a brief stint in a Walmart bakery. Martha was an avid reader, traveler, and fiber artist, favoring crochet, sewing, and cross-stitch. She loved pug dogs, crossword puzzles, chocolate, Jeopardy, and enjoying a morning coffee. Martha will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her love for her family.

Martha is survived by daughters Shannon Dixon (Kelly), Shelley Jenkins (Lance), and Shara Sherman, son Scott Hudson (Ren), grandsons Paul Bohning (Paula) and Aaron Dixon (Hailey), granddaughters Layle Sidwell, Rayna Sherman, Vaughn Sweet (Aaron), Sasha Fowler (Tommy), Shana Languit, Brooke Jenkins, and Bronwen Greenleaf (Brian), great grandsons Dayton Martinez, Anthony Languit, Lucas Languit, Hudson Languit, and Alex Languit, great granddaughters Ami Languit, Tinsley Sweet, and Corynne Dixon, and great-great granddaughter Camdyn.

At the request of Martha, her family will bury her ashes next to her mother's grave in a small German cemetery near Paola, Kansas at a later date.
