Obituary

Marie Elaine Shepherd, a woman of profound generosity and a lifelong caregiver, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, following recent health challenges. She was 79 years old.

Born on July 29, 1946, Marie was the daughter of the late Eldon "Jack" Sayer and Edna Sayer. She was a true reflection of both her parents, inheriting her father's gift for art and his talent for being a truly great listener, while carrying her mother's compassionate heart.

Marie dedicated her life to the service of those she loved. Whether she was raising her children or providing devoted care to her parents and her husband, she lived by the principle of putting others first. Her home was a sanctuary defined by her warmth and her tireless spirit. She famously expressed her love through her kitchen—a gifted cook who turned every meal into a feast. When she wasn't lost in a good book, she channeled her father's artistic talent into creating permanent floral arrangements that brought lasting beauty to the homes of her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Edna Sayer; her sister, Jerry Oakley; and her brother-in-law, Scotty Oakley.
Her legacy of kindness lives on through her surviving family: her son, Charles "Van" Shepherd and his wife Kelly of Royse City, Texas; her daughter, Lillian Fukuda and her husband Hiro of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Andrew Shepherd and his wife Tyler, and Lindsy Hayden; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Avery, and Landon.
