Margaret "Peggy" Metz died Monday, 9/9/24, at Catholic Care Center in Wichita at age 97.  She was surrounded by family during her last breaths.  Each extended family member got to see her and express their goodbyes during the short week she was in hospice care.  One granddaughter in particular, an ICU RN from Tulsa, stayed overnight with her during her last week of life so she wouldn't be alone.

Born Margaret Lavonne Klopp on 12/5/26 in Mason City, Iowa, she moved to Wichita at a very young age and was the oldest girl of 8 siblings.  Graduated Cathedral High School Wichita 1945.  Married Mervin (Louie) Metz in 1951.  She lived in Wichita for most of her long life with 27 years of that time in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by parents William and Viola Klopp, spouse Louie Metz, siblings Jimmy Klopp, Don Klopp, Richard Klopp, Betty Walsh, Pat Hill and grandson Jason Anderson.

Survived by children Patty (Jim) Armstrong of Wichita, Mike (Bev) Metz of Haven, KS, Karen (Rick) Anderson of Broken Arrow, OK and Kathy Metz of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren Matt Armstrong (Cat Abadir), Kelsey (Geneva) Benton, Kristin (Alex) Rincker, Lauren Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Garret (Katelyn) Metz, Jeff (Stacy) Friesen, Julie Friesen (Mike Herren);  Great-grandchildren  - Adi Benton, Tig Benton, Fox Benton, Ora Benton, Zaida Rincker, Margo Rincker, Deazjai Anderson, Jaxson Metz, Grace Metz and Kamryn Herren; Great-great grandchildren Eliza Mitchell and Mason Herren.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, 9/14/24, at 10:00am at Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 4910 N. Woodlawn, Bel Aire, KS.  Funeral luncheon to follow in the church Parish Hall.  Inurnment will occur at a future date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield, KS where she will be inurned along side husband Louie.

Fun facts about Peggy:

Taught herself to yodel as a child so she could climb the backyard tree and call to her neighbor friend.

Husband Louie asked on their first date if he could kiss her; this gesture greatly impressed her.

Loved hummingbirds and kept several hummingbird feeders at her home in Arkansas.  Told one granddaughter they should get hummingbird tattoos together.

While in Arkansas she attended a painting class taught by Bob Ross; some of her children, for years, thought it was the best paint-by-number painting they had ever seen!  It was her own work.

Favorite foods – neopolitan or chocolate ice cream, Dum Dum suckers, sunflower seeds & Jolly Ranchers.

Kansas City Chiefs fan, big-time!  Once wore her KC Chiefs t-shirt backwards, with the player name/number to the front, without realizing it.

Whenever a family member visited, she was forever trying to give us things to take home!

Although not trained as a beautician, she cut many a family member's hair, much to their consternation.

The Wal-Mart in Bentonville became a treasured adventure  for grandchildren who visited her in Arkansas.
