Larry Dean Gilliland, 89, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on May 6, 1935, in Emporia, Kansas, to Noble Cleveland Gilliland and Mary Hasseltine (Spillman) Gilliland.

Larry was a natural entrepreneur with a keen eye for business. He built a successful career in sales and owned his own insurance agency for many years. His passion for trading and selling began in childhood——starting with marbles on the school playground and continuing throughout his life with everything from newspaper ads, PennyPower listings, flea markets, antique booths, and eBay.

A man of many talents, Larry was highly creative and enjoyed making things with his hands. He was a skilled woodworker who also crafted knives and worked on and traded guns. His passion for craftsmanship extended to home renovation; he purchased several houses over the years and personally refurbished them. His workshop was one of his favorite places to spend time. In addition to his many skills, he was also a good cook who took pride in preparing meals for those around him.

Larry served in the Navy Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to service. Though reserved by nature, he cared deeply for his wife and family. He shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sue Gilliland. Together they built a life filled with fun, love and precious family memories. He is also survived by his children: son Jeff (Jackie) Gilliland, daughter Julie Fiedler, and son Kevin (Maggie) Gilliland; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Darrell Gilliland and son in law, Brian Fiedler.

Larry's legacy is one of creativity, hard work, and devotion to family. His memory will live on in the lives of those who knew him.
