John Edward Moore

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of John Edward Moore, 67, on June 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Eureka, Kansas.

John was born on August 9, 1958, in Eureka, Kansas, to Milo Lloyde Moore and Mary Jane (Mahar) Moore. He grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School with the Class of 1976.

Following high school, John began working in the local oil fields before transitioning to offshore oil drilling. He later worked for Ace Construction Company and eventually retired from Gates Rubber Company.

John loved spending time outdoors and could often be found enjoying his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, softball, bowling, and playing in pool leagues. One of his greatest joys was coaching his children in their various sports and later cheering grandchildren on from the stands. He was a proud supporter of Eureka Tornado athletics and a devoted fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs.

John is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Kristin Manzer, whom he met in high school and married in 1977. Together they were blessed with four children: daughters Amie (Troy) Mead of Eureka and Kimberly (Boubacar) Vilane of Kansas City, Missouri; and sons Grant (Allysa) Moore of Eureka and Dylan (Harlie) Moore of Eureka.

He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Haydon, Kennedy, and Easton Mead; Abibatou and Amina Vilane; Finn and Tamsin Moore; Madelyn Moore; and Wayne and Cooper McElroy.

He is also survived by his brother, Leonard (Leona) Moore of Eureka; two nephews, Ted Moore and Hunter Moore; and one niece, Miranda (Moore) Colangelo.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Mary Jane Moore; his brother, Michael Moore; and his beloved grandson, Milo Orland Moore.

John will be remembered for his quick wit, contagious sense of humor, and his ability to make those around him laugh. With his playful spirit, he never missed an opportunity to tell a joke or share one of his many stories. More than anything, John was proud of his family. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for those he loved, and he found his greatest joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow and succeed. He treasured the lifelong friendships he built over the years and valued the simple moments spent with family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, the laughter, love, and countless memories he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate John’s life 3:00pm Friday, July 24, 2026, at Phillips Cabin, Eureka Lake. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
