Obituary

John Wayne Bokey, 74, of Wichita, KS, passed away on September 23, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Born on February 23, 1950, John was a man whose life was marked by his vibrant social nature and his infinite love for people. A Celebration of Life to honor John will be held on Friday, October 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Lodge, Warren Riverview Park in Derby, KS.

John graduated from Wichita South High School in 1969, where he formed lifelong friendships. His professional career spanned many various fields including roles as a gas attendant, construction worker, mover, car salesman, DJ, and real estate sales. He also owned multiple car lots, bars, a jewelry store, and car mechanic shop showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and versatility.

Known for his welcoming nature, John made lasting connections with everyone he met. John loved to dance, play pool, and being able to help others any way he could whether it was finding a car, building a deck, or finding someone to do a job that needed to be done. He was also a huge fan of his grandkids' soccer, football, wrestling matches, and delighted to watch the good ol' chaos at family gatherings.

John is survived by his mother, Flossie Linscott; sister, Sue Wiltse; lifetime friend, Lou Ann Switzer; son, Shane Bokey (Kellanie); two daughters, Stephanie Quiggle (Tim) and Christine Parrott (Chad); and his beloved grandchildren, Brian, Shana, Brandon, Taylor, Aaron, Cody, Jacob, and Riley Dawn, who held a special place in his enormous heart; great-grandchildren Ethan, Mason, Aubrey, Wesley, Walker, and Wyatt, also survive him; His Uncle Charles Lee (JoAnn) Pierecy;  Nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that he dearly loved and wished more than anything for them to know how truly proud of them he was.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ollin "Bud" Linscott; his sisters Marion Bokey and Carrie Young; and his brother, Chuck Montgomery.
