Jewell Doris Swinney's life began on October 13, 1938.  She was born in Burdick, Kansas to Ben and Dee Gutsch.  Jewell was a 1956 graduate of Diamond Valley High School in Burdick.  On October 14, 1956 she married Darrell Swinney at Hebron Lutheran Church.  To this union were born three children, Rhonda Jeanne (Kim) Martin of Wichita; Kenneth Owen (Kerry) Swinney of Derby; and Brenda Kay Swinney.

The couple lived in Mulvane Kansas for a few years then moved to the farm in rural Burdick.  Jewell was a homemaker while the children were young then worked for the Mosier dental office for many years.  After retiring she donated her time working for the thrift store in Herington Kansas.

Jewell enjoyed her family and they took a vacation every year.  A favorite place was Lake City, CO.  She also enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's many school and 4-H events.  The church was very important to Jewell and she was very active in church work and community events in Burdick.

Jewell is survived by daughter Rhonda and son Kenneth, brother Dean Gutsch of Burdick, sister-in-law Pat Gutsch of Kansas City, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and two brothers.

Jewell passed away on February 13, 2025 in Wichita Kansas.  A private burial is planned for family.  A memorial is established for Hebron Lutheran Church and may be sent to: Hebron Lutheran Peters, 2147 S 2900 RD, Burdick KS 66838.  Condolence messages may be sent to 613 N Timberleaf Dr, Derby KS  67037.
