Janis Lauriel Mathews

1937-2025

Janis Lauriel Mathews of Derby, KS, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at the age of 88. Janis was born the daughter of Clarence and Lauriel Mathews in Yate Center, KS on February 7th, 1937. Janis married Charles Caudell and raised four children, Mark in 1958, Craig in 1960 and Todd in 1962 all in Iola, KS, Tina in 1965 of Newton KS., before they divorced later after 37 years.

Janis loved being a wonderful homemaker. She was a fabulous cook, mother, friend, grandmother, great grandmother and prayer warrior. She loved spending time with family, playing the piano and square dancing. Janis was sweet and kind to everyone she encountered. She loved animals and let her children take in all the strays that crossed their path. Janis worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Brookshire Plumbing, Wray Roofing, Kathrines and Katydids Clothing store all located in Newton, KS. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her loved ones.

Survivors include her 3 children: Craig, Todd and Tina. Grandchildren include Kati (Dustin), Kali (Blake), Chelsey, Lyndsee, Ryan (Justine), Desiree (Matt), and many Nieces, Nephews and Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry, son Mark, Grandson Cory and Son-in-law Matthew Ast.

Celebration of Life to he held with her immediate family. Final resting place will be at the Yates Center, KS cemetery.
