Janet Lyn Thorpe, 77, of Wichita, KS passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born May 26, 1947 in Dodge City, KS, the daughter of Wayne and Marjorie (Jean) Bushell.

She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1965. She worked for several years for the US Army and Marines as a clerical typist and programmer until 1998. Janet finished her career at Geico as a programmer until 2013.

Janet married Lloyd Michael Thorpe on August 12, 1970 in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2017 after 47 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Marjorie Bushell; and sister, Barbara Jean Bushell.

Survivors include son, Zachary N. Thorpe; daughter, Ariana M. Thorpe; and son, Patrick D. Thorpe along with 4 grandchildren: Mary, Cadence, Sophia, and Jackson.

She enjoyed her life as a parent, a grandmother spoiling her grandchildren in retirement, a worship leader and member of St. Matthias United Methodist Church, and traveling with her husband to Branson and Pigeon Forge.

A burial service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Kechi Township Cemetery. Afterward, her family will open her home in west Wichita for visitors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in her name.
