James Eldon Ross

James Ross passed away June 20,2026. He was born and raised in Great Bend, KS and was a long-time resident of the Wichita area. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Judy. He is survived by his son James, stepdaughter Kari Miller, sisters Deeanna Lockwood, Patty Faccin and Mary Klein, numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

While in Vietnam, Jim served in the Army with the 1st Air Calvary Division. He was wounded in action in 1968 during the Tet Offensive in the area of Hue, a city in South Vietnam.

Jim earned two degrees from Wichita State University. In 1974 he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and in 1986 he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. In addition to those academic achievements, he received a Masters Equivalency in Logistics from the United States Army at the Red River Army Depot in Hooks, TX. Jim worked for the Veterans Administration Registration Office in Denver, CO for 5 years, as an Air Force Plant Representative Officer in El Segundo, CA and the Army Material Command, Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL. In the late 1980’s Jim worked with the International Logistics Directorate at Ft Carson, Colorado Springs, CO.

Jim was a charter member of an American Legion Post in Denver, CO, and also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22, also in Denver. Jim was a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans of America during his term at Rock Island.

After his stint with the military, Jim was sales manager at Guardian Security Systems in Wichita, KS.

Jim’s Catholic faith was central to him. While in Wichita, he was a part of St Francis Catholic Church, All Saints Catholic Church, and others in the diocese but most recently Jim was a member of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection. While in the military, Jim kept true to his faith, attending Catholic churches in Colorado, Illinois, Texas, and California.

Despite disabilities, illness, and the desperation evident in the world today, Jim wishes to convey to all that God’s ear is not too dull to hear, nor his arm too short to save. God is kind and merciful. All we need to do is to reach out to Him. He will answer.
