Obituary

James Patrick Murphy (Pat), 68, of Haysville, KS, passed away due to complications of cancer on Saturday, August 10, 2024.  Pat was born November 19, 1955 in Enid, OK to Bob and Vera Murphy.

He was a lifetime resident of Haysville, KS where he attended Nelson Elementary, Haysville Middle School, and Campus High School.

He followed in his father's footsteps and worked as a brick mason his entire life.  He was incredibly skilled and enjoyed showing off his work.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on small engines.  His sense of humor was famous; he was known to his friends and family as a jokester.  He enjoyed writing poetry and often signed with one of his nicknames, Homer, which is how many of his friends referred to him.  He was always acting up, even in the hospital, and harassing the nurses.  He'd give you the shirt off his back and was generous and loving to those who meant the most to him.  He was a friend to all animals.  He fed the neighborhood squirrels, raccoons, and all the cats and rescued his best bud, Easy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby D. and Vera K. Murphy,  his brother Michael Murphy and a nephew Michael L. Murphy.

Survivors include his lifetime partner, Violet Hein; son, Ryan Murphy (Alicia) of Haysville, KS; son Robyn Murphy (Shelly) of Jourdanton, TX; 11 grandchildren; sister Janet (Ron) Creech of Haysville, KS; Judy (Rick) Larson of Wichita, KS; Jerilyn Atterbury of Longton, KS and many nieces and nephews, which he affectionately called, "varmints."

Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 1 pm at Grace Communion Derby, 321 S. Derby Ave., Derby, KS.
