James Eddy McMurphy, age 92, of Clearwater, Kansas passed away June 1, 2026.
James was born in December 1933 in Randolph, Vermont to Allen and Fannie McMurphy. James met the love of his life, Barbara, at a fall festival square dance when he was 16. He saved his lunch money to purchase a watch for Barbara to use while she attended nurses training. He enlisted in the US Air Force, and prior to serving in Japan, James and Barbara became engaged. After returning to the USA, they married in 1954. They had three daughters: Karen (son Austin), Coleen (son James) and Keala (husband Dave, daughter Meghan and her husband Erik).
James served his country with great honor and pride, retiring after a 20 plus year career. He continued in public service completing a second career in the US Postal Service.
James was an avid gardener, carpenter, and a genius at finding simple, affordable solutions. He passionately pursued researching and sharing his family genealogy and history. James shared his skills and knowledge with his daughters and grandchildren. He truly loved his family and wife and expressed daily how much they meant to him.
James will always be remembered by his family as an easy going, friendly, curious soul who willingly shared his skills, compassion and humor with all.
