James Robert Mattson, 79 passed away instantly and went to be with His Lord.
James was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 3, 1946. After graduating high school in 1964 he joined the Air Force. He served for 23 years. He served in Vietnam, England, Valdosta, Georgia, and Florida; then in April 1986 Wichita, Kansas. His career both in the Air Force and the Aircraft Company was in a lab called PMEL, where James calibrate, test, repair diagnostic and measurement tools. This supports aircraft, weapons systems and other defense equipment.
James always had a smile on his face. He was a quiet man. He loved the Lord. He loved his children, grandchildren and others that God had placed in our lives.
James was a thinker and loved to learn about everything. If James heard a discussion about planes, submarines, photography; he would tell you all he knew about the topic. It was very important to him that he was a good provider - so working was very important to him. James was not a boaster; he served in Vietnam and over his years in the Air Force he received several medals and certificates of rewards but didn’t display them till our family found out about them 14 years ago.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John J Mattson and Mildred Suggs.
James is survived by his wife, Lynn M Mattson, daughter Alicia (Chris)Lenoir, Iowa, son David Mattson, Kansas, sister Donna (John) Synder, Florida, niece Lorie Hendricks, Palm Coast, brother Wayne (Debbie) Mattson, Florida, nieces Christie (Tim) Wright, Florida, great niece Taylor, Florida, Amanda (Mark) Suter, Texas, and other great nieces and nephews, grandchildren: Kevin Mattson, Maverick Lenoir, Kayla Mattson, Evelyn Lenoir, Grace Lenoir and Kacie Mattson.
