James Southard Bowers, 76, formerly of Pinetop, AZ, passed away peacefully at his home in Haysville, KS on June 22, 2025.

James was born in San Francisco, CA, on July 17, 1948, the son of Milo and Alberta (Baldwin) Bowers. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1971, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska.

James worked in the insurance business, specializing in underwriting maritime policies. His career took him many places, including a year in London. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying biographies and World War II history. Jim loved a good joke and spending time with friends, colleagues and clients.

On November 2, 1998, he married Barbara (Taylor) Ramsey in Las Vegas. They resided in Phoenix, and later Pinetop, AZ. Together, they enjoyed traveling and casinos. Following Barb's death, he moved to Wichita, KS to be closer to his son.

James was preceded in death by his parents, beloved uncle Gilbert, and his wife Barbara. He is survived by son Matthew and his wife, Sara, of Wichita, KS.

Per Jim's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
