Henry Joseph Buenten, 89 passed away on July 10, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas surrounded by family after complications from surgery.

Henry was born on January 2, 1935 in Cologne, Germany to Xaver and Maria Buenten.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of 31 years.  His sons, Henry Buenten (Cindy), Douglas Buenten (Judy), daughters Jennifer Harris and Christina Barrow (Al).  He shared with Joan, her children, Rose Symborski (Eric), Frank Ferretti, Carol Lindsey Harris, and Andrew Ash.  Grandchildren Steven Buenten (Marisa), Zachary Buenten (Kelsey), Jennifer Lopez (Sammy), Dane Buenten, Luke Harris (Allie), Jack Buenten, Elliott Harris (Kylee), Amy Faust, Josh Lindsey, Jason Vario, Jennifer Chambers (Josh), Jennifer Ferretti, Anthony  Ferretti, Vincent Ferretti, and Ashley Von Tress and numerous great grand and great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lenore, sisters Margaret Pon, Agnes, Pon and Annie Auer.

Henry grew up in Germany learning the trade of carpentry that started a passion for woodworking.  Not only was it his profession, but it was his hobby as well as building bird houses, and many other things.  He worked in several lumber yards where he was known for dedication and skill.  His love of nature and the outdoors was extensive and he could name any bird and any tree you asked him about.  His German heritage started a love for beer steins where he collected over 200 of them.  He also collected coins and matchbox cars and dream catchers.  He was always willing to lend a hand with just about any type of carpentry skill that was needed at church or with family.  He was involved in his community in many ways.

A celebration of life will be help at College Hill United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m.
