Obituary

Gary Lee Huffman, 54, of Derby, Kansas, passed away on January 26, 2026. He was born on October 3, 1971.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Billie W. Huffman, and his mother, Ida Norene Huffman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kristine; his stepson, Alex; and his only child, Brandon Huffman (wife Erica); and two grandchildren (Craig and Nycole) of whom Gary was immensely proud. Anyone who knew Gary knew Brandon first—his pride in his son was unmatched and spoken often.

Gary is also survived by his brothers Charles Huffman (wife Julie), Russell Huffman (wife Susan), Chris Sawyer (bonus brother), and youngest brother David Huffman. He leaves behind three nieces, Kasey, Hayley, and Nova, and four nephews, Wesley, Brian, Brayden, and Remy.

Gary spent most of his life in the aircraft industry as an aircraft painter, working his way from the bottom to the top through dedication, talent, and relentless pride in his craft. He poured his heart and soul into every job, leaving a master's touch on every surface he painted. Beyond planes, Gary had an incredible ability to take any junk vehicle and transform it into a show-quality, proven award-winning masterpiece. From meticulous surface prep to laying down that final coat, his work was done with patience, precision, and a heart of gold.

Gary was also known for enjoying a drink or two, sharing laughs with friends, and never being far from his cigarettes. He lived life his way-honest, hardworking, and full of character.

Gary has now laid down his final coat of paint and gone on to paint the Midwest skies for us all. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
