Gary Wayne Custer age 75 of Peru, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at his residence in Peru surrounded by his loved ones.
Gary was born on September 11, 1950 to Leota and George "Irvin" Custer at their home in Peru, Kansas. He was the youngest of seven children. Gary grew up working in the oilfield most of his life. He loved animals and had several different kinds throughout his life. He was a faithful donor to the ASPCA which broadcasted his love for animals. He enjoyed being outdoors and making projects out of wood. He had many different adventures in his life, one of which was skydiving. He was a caring, hard worker that took pride in his family and animals. He was the kind of person that would do anything for anybody and expected nothing in return.
Gary is survived by his son, Shannon Custer of Chautauqua, KS, daughters Jennifer McCoy of Sedan, KS, and Charity (Nick) Raffety of Wichita, KS. Grandchildren, Karlie (Cy) Bruening of Sedan, KS, Kayla (Zachiary) Ford of Peru, KS, Maximos McCoy of Bartlesville, OK, Jace Raffety, Bentley and Francis McKinney, of Wichita, KS. Great grandchildren, Jencie Wolfe and Beckum Bruening of Sedan, KS, Daxson and Bellamy Ford of Peru, KS, and Alice McCoy of Bartlesville, OK. Sisters, Thelma Boulanger of Coffeyville, KS, and Linda Ellis of Wichita, KS. Significant other, Michele Gray of Sedan, KS. Nieces, Becky Cross of Mulvane, KS, Anita Mill of Pittsburg, KS, Lisa Parks of Coffeyville KS, Melissa Custer of CO, Michelle Brown of Independence, KS, and Kerry (Robert) Jones of Haysville, KS. Nephews Derek (Becky) Hull and Troy McNair.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leota and George "Irvin" Custer, sisters, Betty Bohannan, and Wilma "Hopper" Hull, brothers, John Custer and Bill Custer, son, Christopher "Shawn" Custer, nephews, Randy Bohannon, Mark and Doug Hull.
Cremation was done by "Baker's Family Funeral Home" in Wichita, Kansas. A Memorial Service is scheduled for February 7th, 2026 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas at 10:30am. All are welcome.
