Enos Edward Jones

Enos Edward Jones “Ed”, 93 of Wichita, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, at the Robert Dole VA Hospice unit after a short illness. Ed was born September 24th, 1932, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of Bailey E. and Laura (Norris) Jones.

After graduating from El Dorado High School in 1950, Ed served in the US Army as a dental assistant in California. Following his time in the Army, he attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia, KS where he earned a B.S. in Education. In 1958, while attending college, Ed met and married Barbara (Cook) Jones. After graduating from college, Ed began his teaching career at the Americus High School. He went on to teach in Topeka, KS before moving to Wichita, KS. Together Ed and Barbara raised 4 children before divorcing later in life.

Ed’s passion for education and his desire to be a lifelong learner led to his continued studies; earning a Master of Science Education at Texas A&M, College Station, Texas, a Postgraduate in Adult Education at Kansas State University, at Manhattan, Kansas, a Postgraduate at Tuskegee Institute at Tuskegee, Alabama, and a Postgraduate in Science and Business Management at Wichita State University.

Ed was a teacher in the Wichita Public Schools for 33 years, retiring in 1992, but continuing to substitute until 2001. From 1999-2013 Ed helped his son Scott with his plumbing business. He did a lot of the necessary paperwork and delivery of parts to the job site, but what he loved most was the people. Ed never met a stranger and enjoyed exchanging stories with the customers. For over 20 years, Ed helped with Don Taylor Estate Sales. He was a constant shopper throughout his life, looking for bargains at thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales.

Ed lived his life to the fullest. He was a great ballroom dancer, traveling regularly to Dallas to attend dances. He enjoyed reading stories on his large screen computer and he loved telling stories. One of his favorites was for the ladies, asking them, “What do bees make?” When they replied, “Honey.”, his reply would be to say “Thanks for calling me honey.” Another of his favorite pick-up lines was “I didn't catch your name; can I just call you sweetheart?” He made friends easily and was surrounded by many throughout his life. He also had a soft spot for those who were struggling, helping them in any way he could.

Ed is survived by his four children Catherine Beverage (Ricky) of Mulvane, KS, Scott Jones (Nancy) of Buena Vista, CO, Lorianne Earley of Wichita, KS and Jeffrey Jones of Wichita, KS. He was blessed with three grandsons and five great grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Bailey E. and Laura (Norris) Jones, his brothers John Raymond and James Thomas Jones and his son Bryan Ross Jones.

Burial will be at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado, KS at 10 AM, September 24th, 2026. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to your favorite education program in honor of Ed's encouragement of lifelong learning.
