Elaine Sharon Day was born on October 12, 1940 in Imperial, NE to Floyd and Marjorie Day.  She was one  of five Day children at the time with two more siblings who would complete their family.  Her parents were hardworking farmers in Nebraska.  They raised their family to love God deeply and serve him always.  As a young child, Elaine's oldest sister, Geraldine served as her first grade teacher which was always very special to her.

In 1953, her parents felt led to move their family to Haviland, KS so that the children could attend the Friends Academy. Elaine made many lifelong friends and would often say that Haviland was her favorite place to live.  The Day family loved God, family and music.  Many members of their family were gifted musicians and family gatherings were filled with beautiful music especially hymns and songs from the church.

After graduating from the Friends Academy in 1958, Elaine continued her education at Friends Bible College there in Haviland.  At FBC she met the love of her life, Gary G Greer from Independence, KS.  They married one year later on September 19, 1959.  They moved to Independence, KS so that Gary could work with his dad on the farm.  They were there for one year when they realized that Gary did not want to continue farming.  They moved to Wichita so that he could pursue his degree in Elementary Education at Friends University.  Elaine supported this decision and worked at the Better Book Room to help support their family.

They began attending Friends Chapel Church in Wichita, KS.  In the Fall of 1960, they welcomed their first child, Brenda Kaylene, in to their family.  In the Spring of 1964, their second child, Lori Ann, was born. Finally, in February of 1968, they completed their family with the birth of a boy, Gregory Gene.  Elaine was excited to be able to stay home to raise her little family.

Gary made a career change after the birth of Lori and went back to farming; however, this time as an agronomist with DeKalb.  After Greg was born, they moved to the DeKalb farm outside of Valley Center, KS.  Elaine especially enjoyed living there and made some good friends during that time.  They continued attending Friends Chapel and continued to be very involved.

In 1972, Friends Chapel Church and North Friends Church merged and formed Northridge Friends Church.  When the church purchased land to build Northridge in North Wichita, Gary and Elaine bought a house just around the corner from the church so that the family could be involved in church activities easily.  Elaine was very involved in Northridge and brought her children up to love God and the Church.  Elaine enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the choir, as well as joining in Women's Bible Study, attending Sunday School, serving in the Women's Missionary Society, and helping with Vacation Bible School.  She served as the church secretary for a few years and enjoyed that job very much.

As her children got older and more independent, Elaine decided to become a school secretary.  She began at Cloud Elementary and went on to work at USD 259 in the Administration Office as a secretary.  She continued with USD 259 until her retirement.

Elaine served God and others all of her life.  She loved being with family and friends.  Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was a highlight for her.  Her smile and giggle were infectious.  Her friends always felt welcome in her home.  She was an incredible hostess and loved having people in her home.  She loved to cook and bake.  The family always loved her chocolate chip cookies and still make them to this day.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marjorie (Blocker) Day; four siblings, Geraldine Speicher , Verlin Day, Delmer Day, and Duane Day; her grandson, Ryan, her daughter, Lori Hoppock, and her husband, Gary Greer. Her survivors include two sisters, Barbara Lehman and Patricia (Lewis) Campbell; her daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Hoyt, her son, Greg (Archaree) Greer, her son in law, Kevin Hoppock, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren with two more to be added this summer!

A small Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
