Edward Ellis
Wolcott
Nov 25, 1944 — Aug 14, 2025
South Hutchinson
It is with great sadness that the family of Edward E. Wolcott announces his passing on August 14, 2025 at the age of 80. He passed away in Hutchinson, KS, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Ed was born in Hays, KS in 1944. As a young child he moved to the Hutchinson area where he lived the rest of his life. He went to Buhler High School, where he had an outstanding track and basketball career. After High School, he joined the Army. In 1973, he became employed as a carpenter for Dillons. He retired in 2007. He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, tinkering in the garage, going to the flea market and hosting garage sales. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Leah, until she became too ill to do so. They loved eating at restaurants that served unique local dishes and cold beer. Ed was known to help anyone who asked. He gave freely of himself but rarely asked that of others. He helped fix cars, build houses, remodel garages, move furniture, you name it, he could do it. His wife and daughters believed he could do just about anything and he would always try. He was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts and a youth basketball coach. He was capable and strong and demonstrated it often. He will be missed beyond measure.
Ed is survived by his brother, Larry Wolcott, and his wife, Cynthia; his sister, Joann Roy; daughters Marci McAllister and her partner, Karl Grant, Beth Drinnen and her husband, Richie Drinnen; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and his wife.
A celebration of life will be held in Hutchinson; details are pending.
