In the wee hours of May 27, 2024, Doreen Renee Hersh sang her way into the welcoming arms of Abba Father and Yeshua.

Doreen's song began as the fourth and final child of Gene Delbert and Blanche Hersh on August 25, 1960, in Wichita, Kansas. With her formal education at Haysville Schools, she graduated from Campus High School in 1978. Her love for God and spiritual education started before she could recall. Her Mama and Daddy introduced her to the love, joy, and sharing of the Lord through music at a very young age when she attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Wichita where she originally learned to play the organ.

Despite Doreen losing her Mama at a young age she never lost the wisdom of what it was to be maternal. Doreen did not have children of her own; but she loved her nieces and nephew as if they were her own. She had a sense of wonder and learning in all parts of life.

Doreen's melody transitioned and grew from that of a playful child to a young songbird when attending and graduating from Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Oklahoma in the early 1980's. She remained steady on course and continued to share her passion for God. Being a member of the Great Life Singers group allowed her the adventure to record, perform and travel around the United States and Internationally. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Music, she found herself encouraged by her Daddy to fly solo as she moved to Sacramento, California in 1984 to help begin a music ministry.

Though she worked in many different fields, she was always nurturing those around, teaching various skills to anyone who was willing and wanting to learn. She found a church home at Capital Christian Center where she served as part of the worship team. Doreen continued to share her gifts as she was a constant and longtime member of the Choir, the Hand Bell Choir, a featured Soprano in the Choral group which traveled and recorded as well as having her annual fun in the Singing Christmas Tree and Easter programs while working with the Children's Choir.

Doreen answered the call to education and received her teaching certification from California State University, Sacramento in the early 1990's. Though teaching presented various challenges, she took them in stride as she taught in Sacramento at both private and public schools. Her tempo took a turn as she returned to Wichita, Kansas around 2006.

As the time changed in her song and the chorus was reprised, she transitioned flawlessly. Attending Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church helped deepen her love of God during the transition to a new school district and the loss of her Daddy. Doreen found the bridge on August 25, 2012, as she was called to the bima and read from the Torah for her Bat Mitzvah at Remnant of Israel Synagogue.

From an early age her vast repertoire of gifts included all forms of art including visual and performing, music, theatre, dancing, worship, sewing, quilting cooking, baking and more. She enjoyed gifting her handmade items to family and friends and seeing the joy in their faces when they received her treasured gifts.

She had a deep love and care for her students, colleagues, friends, and family. Doreen had a passion for teaching Biblical Hebrew. As the volume of her song increased her light grew even brighter. Her compassion, maternal instincts, teaching, mentorship, empathy, gifting, hugs, and smile will forever be missed; her coolness, curiosity, adventure, wonder, love, light, and spirit will forever live on.

Reunited with her parents, Blanche and Gene Delbert Hersh; maternal grandparents, Edwin and Lulu Hopkins; paternal grandparents, Thomas Eugene "TE" and Zelma Hersh.

Leaving to cherish her laughter, smile, hugs, and silliness are brother, Keith Hersh of Wichita, KS; sisters, Sharon (Jim) Allman of Tecumseh, OK, and Mondella Benton of Wichita, KS. Nieces and nephew, Kim (Rodney) Thomason of Shawnee, OK; Karen (Bill) Coker of Tecumseh, OK; Brandy (Robert) Rogers of Ardmore, OK; Aaron (Justine) Hersh of Middleboro, MA, and Christy (Omar) Suñer of Evergreen, CO. Grand-nieces and nephews, Tyler Rogers, Hayden Coker, Trevor Thomason, Makayla Coker, Troy Thomason, Claudia Thomason, Brady Hersh, Kennedy Hersh, Jolene Suñer and Nolan Suñer. Many cousins, family, and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Remnant of Israel Synagogue, 3700 E. Pawnee, Wichita, KS.
