In Loving Memory of Daniel (Danie) Johannes Potgieter
April 4, 1948 – February 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Daniel (Danie) Johannes Potgieter, who departed this life on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in his hometown of Clearwater, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family. Even throughout his illness, Daniel's spirit remained unshaken—his enduring smile and gentle strength a testament to the love and joy he brought to those around him.

Born on April 4, 1948, in Cape Town, South Africa, Daniel was the eldest son of Dan and Anne Potgieter. He grew up as the protective and caring eldest of five siblings—one brother, Benjamin, and three sisters, Rita Steyn, Elize Erasmus, and Lynette Pretorius—whom he loved dearly.

Faith and music played a central role in Daniel's life. It was in church that he met the love of his life, Debra Vivien Matthysen, and on February 28, 1976, they began their journey together as husband and wife. Their shared passion for worship and music led them to be deeply involved in the music ministry of every church they attended. Daniel's love for playing bass was not only a gift to the congregations he played for, but also a beautiful reflection of his deep love for music and his faith.

Daniel's greatest joys were God, his family, and music. Though he was a stoic and resolute man, his love ran deep. He was a devoted husband to Debra, a caring father to Naomi Lucas, Lidia Potgieter, Desré Mayer, and Daniel Matthysen Potgieter, and a cherished grandfather to Liam, Adam, and Noah Lucas, Anthony and Kylee Parsons, McKayla, Bianca, Ian, Sterling, and Quintin Mayer, as well as Esmari and Addison Potgieter. His guidance, wisdom, and unwavering devotion were undeniable. He found great joy in creating music with his family and lived with a steadfast faith, always striving to protect and provide for those he loved. His presence was strong, his influence lasting, and his love, in its own way, boundless.

Daniel had a natural gift for fixing things, a true "MacGyver"—if something was broken, he could find a way to make it work again. Whether it was an old radio, a musical instrument, or a car, he had the patience and skill to bring things back to life. He was a hard worker and had a willingness to share his time, knowledge, and talents. His selflessness and dedication to helping others were a true reflection of his character.

A memorial service to celebrate Daniel's life will be held on March 22nd at 10:00 am at Berean Assembly, 1215 W. Carey Lane, Wichita, KS 67217.  Please send any floral remembrances to the church directly.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that Daniel's legacy of love, faith, and music will continue to resonate in the lives of those he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
