Obituary

Colleen Adele Joy, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on Sunday, December 22, 2024, following a courageous two-year battle with Parkinson's disease and colon cancer.

Born to Frances Eastman, Colleen grew up in Park City, Kansas and attended Chisholm Trail Elementary, Brooks Middle School, and Heights High School. Colleen had a remarkable career at the Coleman Company, where she began on the assembly line, became the first woman welder at the company and eventually transitioned into their customer service department. After retiring from Coleman, Colleen worked part-time at Lowe's until health challenges made it impossible for her to continue.

An avid reader, Colleen had a particular fondness for murder mystery novels. She also enjoyed volunteering and attending church services at Pathway Church. She cherished the friendships she formed through her volunteer work and at her church.

Colleen is survived by her daughters, Shonda Rickard, Sheri Rutledge (Kevin) her grandchildren, Natasha "Tasha" Esparza, Morgan "Mo" Bembry (Javon), Vanessa Nikkel, Maya Rutledge, Parker Rutledge; and her brother, Edward Severson; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and four siblings Steve Unger, Brenda Woliver, Phillip Unger, and Cary Severson.

A celebration of Colleen's life will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11:00am. Services will be held at Pathway Church Westlink Campus, followed by a private family burial at White Chapel Cemetery.
