Cheryl Jean Roberts was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 25, 1958 to the late Henry Harry Roberts and Emogene Freeman Roberts. One brother, Henry Gentry, preceded her in death. She departed this life on May 9, 2025 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She received her elementary and secondary education in the Ardmore City Public Schools, Ardmore, Oklahoma and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1976. In 1980, she received her undergraduate degree, in Psychology and English, from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. After a year at Emporia State University pursuing a graduate degree in clinical psychology, she made her decision to attend law school. In 1985, Cheryl graduated from Washburn University School of Law. While in law school she was the Director of the Law Clinic and worked part-time as a law clerk on the State Board of Tax Appeals.

Cheryl began her career as an attorney in the area of criminal defense. She worked in the Public Defender's Office for four years; and, served in the City Prosecutor's Office for a year. In her private practice, she was an accomplished lawyer specializing in criminal law, domestic, divorce, business , bankruptcies, and probate law. In 1997, in Washington, D.C., she was sworn in at the U.S. Supreme Court as Supreme Court Counsel.

On June 8, 1996, Cheryl was joined in holy matrimony to Herbert Gerard Jones, a union that lasted for almost twenty-nine years. As a couple they were a true testament to the marital vow of "in sickness and in health." The challenges they both faced only served to strengthen their love, support and devotion to one another.

She was an avid reader whose interests included healing, her Chickasaw heritage, and law. She was involved in many organizations to include: member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 1991, she was appointed by Governor Joan Finney and served as Chair of the Law Enforcement Training Commission. Cheryl also served as: board member, Drug Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program; member, Kansas Bar Association; member, The Women and Minority Task Forces; and, actively involved in the Wichita Genealogical Society (Native American history).

Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Herbert Gerard Jones; stepson, Herbert George Jones (Cindy); stepdaughters, Aleasha Jones and Veronica Jones; stepgrandsons, Jaxon Jones and Kingston Jones; brother, Clarence Roberts; sister, Christy Roberts (Walter Daniels); nieces, Tia Daniels and Angelina Anderson; great-nephew, Za'Ryan Daniels; cousins Reginald Roberts (Diane) and their son, Reggie; sister-in-law, Margaux Anderson (Ralph); and a host of friends and colleagues.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church - 1356 N. Broadway - Wichita, KS.  Interment will follow the service at Kechi Cemetery - Kechi, Kansas.
