Cannon James Shadoin – Apr 2, 1997 – May 18, 2026

Cannon James Shadoin departed this life on May 18th, 2026, while surrounded by his family.  Born in Crete, NE to parents Pam and Dan Shadoin, he lived in Nebraska, Louisiana, Texas and Kansas.  Cannon graduated from Wichita State University in 2022 with a degree in game design.  Prior to attending WSU, Cannon attended the University of Nebraska where he proudly competed on the NU Rugby team and created a twelve-foot inflatable bear for his art class that drew the admiration of everyone who passed by.  Cannon shared his passion for online gaming while acting as gamemaster for Dungeons & Dragons, with a group of friends he would travel to see when his health permitted.  Cannon also had a passion for cooking and a flair for sushi and sashimi.  He was his father's favorite fishing buddy, be it walleye in Canada, crappie in Kansas, or sharks on the Louisiana coast.  Like his father, Cannon's love of fishing included a love of shopping for fishing gear.  His love of wildlife started with trips to see wild alligators in Louisiana and ended with regular trips to the local zoo.  Cannon had a wicked sense of humor and while he remained silent most of the time, no one was safe when he fired off a well-placed turn of phrase.  Cannon doted on his border collie companion Bandit.

Cannon was an unexpected gift provided to his family by God.  He was kind, compassionate, creative, and competitive.  While he was primarily shy, he could easily make friends with his compassionate wit and ability to make others feel at ease.  He struggled against his cancer with little complaint and no quit.  Even as it stole his health and limited his freedoms, he fought on.  When the outcome had been determined, he fought on. Until the last moment, he fought on.

Cannon is survived by his parents, Pam & Dan of Wichita, brother David and wife Hailey, of Colorado Springs, brother Matthew of Crete, NE, sister Melissa of Wichita, grandfather Darrel Fillmore of Wichita, as well as his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Cannon was preceded in death by his grandmothers Carolyn Fillmore and Ida Shadoin-Speer, and grandfather Phil Shadoin.

A memorial service will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026 at the Baker Funeral Home, 6100 E Central, Wichita, KS. Donations in his honor can be made to Sarcoma Foundation of America, Ronald McDonald House, Hope Lodge (Rochester, MN), the Sedgwick County Zoo (Wichita, KS) or University of Nebraska Rugby.
