Bonnie Evelyn Hardy, 93, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025.  She was born on November 16, 1931 in a log cabin up on Huckleberry Special of rural Jane, Missouri to Clarence and Georgia Wellesley.  She was the oldest of five sisters.  Bonnie graduated from White Rock High School as valedictorian in 1949.

Bonnie was a homemaker caring for her family and in later years, a para in the math department for the Wichita Public Schools.  She was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church.  Previously, she was a charter member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.  She served in many capacities in the church over the years.  Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James L. Hardy, her parents Clarence and Georgia (Buttram) Wellesley, two sisters Della Moreman of Bentonville, Arkansas, Ada Michaels of Harrison, Arkansas, two young brothers Gerald and Carl Wellesley, and her granddaughter, Andrea Gurule Maestas of Cuba, New Mexico.

Bonnie is survived by daughter Debra Gurule (Bobby) of Cuba, New Mexico, sons Randy Hardy (fiancée Cheryl) and Roger Hardy of Wichita. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lindy Gurule, Matthew Gurule, Randi Janell Hardy, Chelsey Stephens, Ashley Hardy, and Jessica Hardy.  Great grandchildren Joshua Maestas, Mariah Maestas, Santiago Maestas, Abby Ketterman, Aaron Ketterman, and Brooklyn Stephens. She is also survived by two sisters Tressie Wellesley of Wichita and Freda (John) Schlessman of Beaver, Oklahoma.

Bonnie and Jim were married in 1952 in Clever, Missouri.  At the time of his death in 2008, they had been married for 56 years. Bonnie loved her family and friends.  She was an excellent seamstress making many face masks for people of the Navajo Nation in New Mexico during the early pandemic.  Among many other things, she made quilts for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her daughter's wedding dress and veil.

The family is especially appreciative for the staff of Bethel House for the quality  care they provided to Mom during the past two years.

The Memorial Celebration Service for Bonnie will be held on Saturday, April 5,11 am, Riverview Baptist Church, 844 W. 53rd St. N., Wichita. Reception will be held following the service. Interment will take place in the afternoon at Kechi Township Cemetery.
