Billy Ray Campbell, 84, Cedar Vale, KS, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on September 8, 1940, in Cedar Vale, KS, the son of Virgil and Orma (Shaff) Campbell.

Bill graduated from Cedar Vale Memorial High School in 1958.  He joined the Military in 1963 and left the military with the passing of his father in 1965.  Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 201 since 1966.  He served as a commander from 1998 through 2018.  He served on the board of The People's Place for 20 years.

He researched and designed with help the Veterans Memorial Park.  Bill organized the Three-Volley Salute for the Military Honor Funerals. He also organized Memorial Day Services at the Cedar Vale Cemetery and placed Veteran flags at five cemeteries for many years.

He owned and operated the Campbell Carpentry Shop remodeling and building houses in Cedar Vale and the surrounding areas.  He was always available for anyone who had handy man projects.

He married Nina (Bolton) Elliott on January 1, 1989. They blended their families when they married and enjoyed many family times together. He enjoyed camping, grandkids ballgames, traveling and his favorite past time was watching grandkids in all their activities.  They celebrated their 36th anniversary this year.

Survivors include Nina Campbell of the home, numerous family members, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and his brother Larry Campbell of Arkansas City, KS.
