Bernice Lavern Stephenson was born October 21, 1937 on the family farm, on Silver Creek, north of Clements, Kansas.

Bernice attended school at the Clements school. She graduated in the class of 1955. During her school years she worked at the Farmers Co-op store in Clements.

After graduation she went to work at the Cedar Point State Bank. Later she worked at banks in Oklahoma. Later going to work at Southwest National Bank, in Wichita, Kansas, where she worked in the loan department.

While working at Southwest National Bank she met Edwin Grimmett. They were married on May 15, 1971. Bernice and Edwin enjoyed years of camping and fishing. When Edwin retired from selling State Farm insurance, in 1995, they moved to Center, Texas. They returned to Wichita in 2016.

After breaking her hip in 2017 she was in Meridian Nursing and Rehab Center. She moved to Eureka Nursing Center in May of 2019 and remained there until her passing.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents George and Gladys Stephenson and her sisters Betty Walker and Donna McCallum. She is survived by her sisters Linda Scott and Lila Fanning, step-songs Greg Grimmett and Roger Grimmett, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Clements Cemetery in Clements, Kansas.
