Alvie Benjeman Jurey, known affectionately as Butch, passed away on November 8, 2024, at the age of 76 in Winfield, Kansas. Born on January 31, 1948, Butch lived a life marked by dedication to his craft and service to his country.

After attending Arkansas City High School, Butch enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1967 to 1969. His time in the military was followed by a distinguished career as a carpenter and concrete worker. He worked on notable projects such as the Reagan International Center and parts of the Washington, D.C. Metro system. In the mid-1980s, he transitioned to long-haul trucking, specializing in transporting seafood from Maine to Oklahoma.

Butch was known for his strong work ethic, which he carried into his retirement, often doing odd jobs for friends and neighbors. He will be remembered for his willingness to help and his constant activity.

Butch is survived by his sister, Alice Alcorn (Dale); his children, Liza Jurey of Summerville, SC; James (Yesica) Jurey of Summerville, SC; Jeffrey Jurey of Summerville, SC; Michael (Katie) Jurey of Green Bay, WI; Joshua Smith of Wichita, KS; and Laura (Michael) Robinson of Rose Hill, KS. He was a proud grandfather to Robbie, Caden, Arianna, Abraham, Zachary, Aidan, Nathan, Micah, James, Dante, and Kaelyn. Great Grandchildren Kaylee, Hunter. Alvie and Izabella. Former spouse Mary Jo Jurey, mother of Michael and Laura. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Louise Jurey; his half-sister, Marsha Meeks; half-brother, Floyd Anderson; and grandchildren, Miguel Dade and Hattie Ann Jurey. He was also preceded in death by his former spouse, Diana Whalen Moore, the mother of his children Liza, James and Jeffrey.

Butch's life was one of service, hard work, and dedication to his family and community. His legacy will live on through his family and the many projects he contributed to throughout his career.

Memorial/Interment service will be on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery 1208 N. College St. Winfield, KS 67156.
