Alfreda L. Micheaux was born on October 23, 1940, in Jackson County, Kansas City, Missouri, to Lucinda Johnson and Frederick Douglass Micheaux. She transitioned peacefully on April 11, 2026 on Danell's Birthday surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of strength, service, and quiet trailblazing.

Alfreda made her home in Great Bend, Kansas, where she began building her family. She was also a trailblazer in her early years, becoming the first Black woman to graduate in her class in 1958. She was the proud mother of three children: her eldest daughter, Latisa Micheaux; her daughter, Danell Micheaux Ware, who preceded her in returning to the Creator; and her son, Terrance D. Micheaux I.

The family later settled in Wichita, Kansas, where she raised her children and rooted her life in community and purpose.

She also shared a lifelong bond with her sibling, Mildred Lewis, whose love and connection remained an important part of her life.

A woman of determination and dignity, Alfreda broke barriers during a time when opportunities were limited. She made history as one of the first Black women to serve as a secretary at Beech aircraft and as one of the first Black executive secretary at Cudahy Meat Packing Company. Her work ethic and presence opened doors not only for herself, but for those who would follow.

Alfreda also dedicated part of her career to public service through the Internal Revenue Service, and she faithfully served her community through her work with Wichita Public Schools USD 259. In addition, she gave her time to mentoring individuals in Sedgwick County residential correctional programs, offering guidance, encouragement, and compassion to those seeking a better path.

She carried a spirit that was both strong and graceful—one who moved through life with purpose, resilience, and a soul that knew how to dance, even through life's trials.

Alfreda leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Latisa Micheaux and Terrance D. Micheaux I, along with 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and all those whose lives were touched by her presence, wisdom, and quiet strength.

Funeral service will be held on April 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. at  Grant AME Church at 2750 North Hillside - Wichita Kansas.

She is reunited in peace with her parents, Lucinda Johnson and Frederick Douglass Micheaux, her daughter Danell Micheaux, and all who have gone before her.
