Albert David Barker, 75, of Wichita, KS, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024.  David was born May 12, 1949, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Elizabeth (Hough) Barker.

David grew up in Belle Vernon, PA and graduated from high school in 1967.  He was drafted into the Army in June of 1969 and after Basic Training was sent to Fort Riley, KS.  He was sent to Vietnam in August 1970 and returned home May 1971 when his enlistment was up.  He then attended college at the University of Kansas until he accepted a position at the Army Reserve Center in Wichita in January 1975.  He  continued to work at the Reserve Center and in 1986 was promoted to Sergeant Major.  He graduated from Kansas Newman with a Bachelor of Science degree as an Addiction Therapist in December 1992.  He then took a therapist position at the VA Hospital.

He married Deborah Simon on March 17, 1972 at St. Xavier Church in Junction City, KS.  They had four children who attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament in Wichita, KS.  For many years, David enjoyed coaching girls volleyball, basketball, and softball; and also boys baseball and basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth, son, Eric Andrew Barker and brother William H. Barker, Jr.

Survivors include Deborah; daughter, Ann Schepis; and sons, Adam Barker and Brian Barker; and seven grandchildren, all of Wichita, KS.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Winfield, KS at 2:00 p.m.
